Club News

  • From the President's Desk

The fall is always a busy time at NTS and this year is no exception with two NEBA 3D shoots coming up, the annual Trap Fun Shoot, and the resurrected Military Rifle Match as well as hunter safety and pistol class. We didn’t run the rifle match last year because NO ONE registered. We had cancelled the event since no one called and no one seemed interested in participating. We didn’t buy any food or prizes and opened up the calendar for that day. A few guys actually showed up on the scheduled day of the event to find nothing happening. I felt bad but really couldn’t justify spending funds if no one
was to be there to benefit. To be able to plan for a smooth running event at the club all we need is a phone call from you to let us know you’ll be there. So... If you intend on shooting in one of the upcoming fun shoots GIVE US A CALL so we can plan.

Summer has been pretty busy too. Environmental chair Fred Stein and his crew did the Adopt A Roadside pick up on Route 7 near the Tomhannock Reservoir in August while George Cundiff and Ed Schultz have been keeping the grounds looking great. A big thanks to Frank DiNuzzo for replacing the flag for Independence Day. The Trap Committee and work crew recently stowed away a load of birds and the trap shooters are loving the new machine (especially the chairmnn). The new
pistol range is getting a work out and we easily held our NRA Basic Pistol/Practical Pistol on the range. Many thanks to Tully Rinckey Law Firm (see the back page ads) for sponsoring the class and providing ammo, saving the club some money especially considering today’s ammo prices. We are in the process of finishing up an NRA Grant Application for covered firing positions on the pistol range. If approved, the plan is to cover the entire 70' of firing line and pour cement floors. The grants will be awarded in early 2011 for spring 2011 work. Thanks to Ray Jacques for doing a superb work up and set
of plans for this project. Ray is also the member who has built the great new shooting benches on the rifle range, he is truly a craftsman.

We still need volunteers for providing food at the membership meetings. We’re covered for September but we need someone looking forward into the fall. The club covers all reasonable costs and we’re open to suggestions for the “unusual”. Let me know if you can help out.

Check with Joe Janak at the next meeting for club shirts, hats and decals.

Lastly, the FFDC has had a number of meetings and contacts with engineers and vendors to hammer out a design for a new building and inside range. The team is solidly behind the concept and we want to move the process along to the next step of a final design soon. I hope to have a brief presentation at the October meeting to explain what we have so far. We’ve done a lot of work and think you’ll like with what we have so far.

  • Each year The North Troy Stag Rod & Gun Club sponsers two young people to attend one of the NYS Encon Youth Camps for a week. This year we are sending Daniel Ramirez-Lansley and Hanna Wilber to Pack Forest. Daniel's parents and Hanna's grandfather are members of NTS. Have a great time!!!

  • Deer Take Report from Club Property 2010

  • The numbers from our tracking system are available from John McCarty. This helps us determine the deer population on our club grounds.

  • Red Fridays

  • Red Fridays have been a big success. The reason? Americans who support our troops and used to be called the "silent majority" are no longer silent and are voicing their love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red. By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is...We need your support and your prayers. Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear something red every Friday. WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED-WEAR RED! MOST OF ALL - GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • Entrance Gate At Club

  • The club's automatic gate has been a huge success. As long as your dues are current, your issued key card will open both the gate intoour property and the clubhouse door. Access to our property is now totally controlled and unauthorized use has been curtailed.

This is what you’ll see as you approach the ENTRANCE GATE. . You MUST now use your membership KEY CARD TO OPEN THE GATE. This is the same card you were issued to gain entrance to the club house. Contact treasurer Phil Hembdt if you need a new card. Defective cards will be replaced free of charge. There is a charge to replace lost cards.
