Education and Training:
The North Troy Stag Rod & Gun Club, under the guidance of its Education Committee, is committed to providing education and training in the shooting sports to members and the public. Club members providing training include two NRA Training Counselors, more than 25 NRA Certified Instructors in Pistol and 8 NRA Certified Instructors in Shotgun.
Courses currently offered include:
Rensselaer County pistol safety for new permit applicants
Rensselaer County Advanced Pistol course for current permit holders requesting restrictions to be removed
NRA Basic Pistol
NRA Basic Shotgun
Glock Armorer's class
NYS Hunter Education (required for a NYS hunting license)
NYS Bow Hunter Education (required for a NYS bow hunting license)

Rensselaer County advanced pistol
April 10, 2010 8:00AM to 12:30PM.
Cost: $30
This course is required by the Rensselaer Court whenever a current Pistol Permit holder is requesting hunting and target only restrictions to be removed. For further information contact Joyce Sullivan, Rensselaer County Pistol Permit Clerk at 270-4171.
NRA Basic Pistol
May 20, 2010 to June 24, 2010 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM for 6 weeks
Cost: $75
Students must have a valid NYS Pistol Permit. This course is designed to provide formal training in safe handling and shooting of a handgun through using the NRA Basic Pistol Course. Classes involve live fire at our range and are conducted by NRA Certified Pistol Instructors. The course fee includes the cost of ammunition. Due to the ratio of one instructor per student during live fire, the class is limited to 18 students.
Courses for NRA Basic Shotgun and NRA Certified Instructor in Pistol will be offered during 2010. Dates will be posted here in the future.
