A safe hunt starts long before anyone steps into the woods. In New York, changing weather, mixed public and private land, and busy firearm seasons make planning as important as marksmanship. Good preparation lowers risk before the hunt begins. Know the rules before you go New hunters in New York must complete the required hunter education before buying a hunting license. On June 7, we were proud to host five competing schools for the Rensselaer County School Trap Championship. The 2026 trophy was taken by Tamarac, following Lansingburgh winning the title in 2024. Thanks to participating schools (Berlin, Hoosick Falls, Lansingburgh, Tamarac and Maple Hill) for participating, and to the players, coaches, family and fans. North Troy Stag will host Open Trap sessions starting Sunday, April 19. These will occur every Sunday at 10 am until we either run out of shooters or reach approximately 1 pm, weather permitting. Non-Club Members are welcome to join on all Open Trap dates. The last Sunday shoot typically takes place on the second Sunday in November. Trap Shooting will not be held on the following Sundays to accommodate Club activities: 5/24, 6/21, 8/23, 9/27 Cost: $5 Per Round of 25 Birds
